The Winter Olympics boosted earlier demand among Czech skiers for vacations in Italian resorts.
Hosting the Olympic Games in the Italian Dolomites has improved the quality of ski resorts, but limited their capacity.
Preparations for the Winter Olympics in Italy have accelerated demand among Czech skiers for trips to the Alps. Most of the capacity contracted by travel agencies is already sold out. The Olympics have also caused a shift in ski vacations to smaller resorts with lower prices than those reserved for the Olympics, but with fewer kilometers of slopes. But there is no need to completely avoid the resorts reserved for the Olympics. For example, Val di Fiemme, where cross-country skiing and ski jumping will be concentrated, is ready and open for downhill skiers.
Tour operators confirmed high numbers of clients and increasing turnover this year. Ski pass prices rise by 3-5% every year, and this year is no different. Accommodation prices in Italy have increased by more than 10% due to the Olympics, and in February and in popular resorts, they have increased many times over. Purchasing a package holiday from a travel agency / tour operator is therefore the cheapest option for skiing in the Italian Alps this season.
Standard tickets for the Olympics can only be purchased through the official website of the organizer. Hospitality packages (including tickets) are offered by only one travel agency in the Czech Republic, which is an authorized dealer for the Czech Republic and also a member of AČCKA. The Czech Olympic Committee warns that if fans purchase such a trip from unauthorized sellers or on unofficial platforms, they run a high risk that the tickets will be invalid at the venue or will be canceled without compensation.
In Italy this year, it is necessary to draw attention to the rules for skiers. On the slopes of the Italian Alps, it is mandatory to have proof of liability insurance, and as of this year, all downhill skiers must wear a protective helmet, regardless of age. At the same time, it is possible to be tested for alcohol or toxic substances, the presence of which in the skier's blood is prohibited.
